The Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea was chartered in September 1978 within District 5000, Club #18 of Rotary International. Kirk Munroe served as the 1978-1979 charter president. The luncheon meetings were held at Kihei Prime Rib restaurant in Kihei. Today this is the restaurant where Fred's and Moose McGullycutty's are located on South Kihei Road across from Kamaole Beach #2. Memories of the charter members recall that a fabulous salad bar/buffet was provided, however, Rotarians were asked to purchase drinks to help offset the expense of the food.

In 1983, the weekly meetings moved to the Intercontinental Hotel in Wailea where they remained through an evolution of resort ownerships each inviting the Club to remain as a part of their service, reaching both local residents and tourists. When Marriott Resorts purchased the property, the Club moved to the Diamond Resort (now Hotel Wailea) at the beginning of Rotary year 2003-2004. This partnership continued until July 2010 when the transition was made to Mulligan's on the Blue in Wailea. When the restaurant closed during the pandemic, the Club began Zoom meetings. On December 1, 2021 we moved to our present location at the Kihei Lutheran Church, where we meet both in person and on Zoom, welcoming speakers from all over the world.

In 1996, some members of the Kihei-Wailea Club desiring a morning/breakfast meeting applied for and were granted a charter for the Kihei-Sunrise Rotary Club.  This Club re-merged with Kihei-Wailea in 2008.

To the pride of Kihei-Wailea Rotary Club, two Hawaii District 5000 District Governors were members of our Club. Eli Meshulam served in 1994-1995. George Fontaine during 2007-2008.

Due to the dedication and service of our membership, The Kihei-Wailea Club is a perennial recipient of honors and awards during annual District Conferences. These recognitions are an acknowledgment of the Club s service through our community, state and international projects.
