The Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea was chartered in September 1978 within District 5000, Club #18 of Rotary International.
Due to the dedication and service of our membership, The Kihei-Wailea Club is a perennial recipient of honors and awards during annual District Conferences. These recognitions are an acknowledgment of the Club's service through our community, state and international projects.
OUR TIMELINE
- 1978-1979: Kirk Munroe served as the charter president. The luncheon meetings were held at Kihei Prime Rib restaurant in Kihei. Today this is the restaurant where Fred's and Moose McGillycuddy's are located on South Kihei Road across from Kama'ole Beach II.
- 1983: The weekly meetings moved to the Intercontinental Hotel in Wailea where they remained through an evolution of resort ownerships, each inviting the Club to remain as a part of their service, reaching both local residents and tourists.
- 2003: When Marriott Resorts purchased the Intercontinental Hotel property, the Club moved to the Diamond Resort (now Hotel Wailea) at the beginning of Rotary year 2003-2004.
- 2010: The Marriott Resorts partnership continued until July 2010 when the transition was made to Mulligan's on the Blue in Wailea.
- 2020: When Mulligan's closed during the pandemic, the Club began Zoom meetings.
- 2021: On December 1, the club moved to the Kihei Lutheran Church, where we meet both in person and on Zoom, welcoming speakers from all over the world.
